Sitting in front of a braid test machine for hours you must learn
some thing. I have the "Tasline All White Series" made for me, I
aimed at it being "the best thinnest strongest braid" made, or I
would not back it. I
carry tens of thousands of dollars of equipment, with the cost of
spares, time / site upkeep, and all the line testing is free.
The hours involved in all the testing you would never believe. Yes
it's an interest and hobby,,, Isn't it great you can come and visit

It's a
small world we live in today, that's why I don't understand that the
Spiderwire braid is listed in the EU as 20lb 0.120mm and tests 25lb,
and in the US it listed as 20lb 0.240mm and tests 53lb. Then in the
EU the 20lb spool has the 15lb line on it, instead of the 20lb,
bloody confusing for the buyer, no wonder they are always discussing
breaking strains and knot strengths.

4lb, 10lb, and put it in the Braid section it should really be in
the Plastic / mono section.

sent in at 0.120mm 20lb. Measuring the diam it is 0.225, bs test
shows 25lb, previous equiv tests @ diam shows its a 15lb line,
previous 20lb tests are 53lb.
So this is a line
listed as 20lb, and has a listed diam of the (USA) 10lb, and at the
end of the day it has the 15lb on the spool,,, now you can see how
important the size measurement is in identifying which line is on
the spool. Sorry Spiderwire.
It's easy to get the lb
/ kg mix wrong, but this is definitely that of a company running out
of 10lb and putting the 15lb on the spool.

not and cannot test the bs of braids, hence they rely on what the
manufacturer supplies.

that the Cortland Master Braid is not anywhere near as strong as it
used to be, the latest tests show a considerable decline is
strength, with the new bronze coloured lines its like the 20lb is
now the 30lb and the 30lb is now the 50lb, investigations and

asked how to hold lines on testing machines, as knots (which you
cannot use) fail and or cause failures.
I know what all the
online testers are looking for, but these days I access the line
before I choose a method by which I test it, and that comes with
experience and
time. So I cannot advise as to what is the best holding method,
especially as it is still a work in progress, and always will be. A
lot of new ideas comes from all this.
To test lines and knots you need to overcome the failure of the
holding method at each end of the line, and that is what testing is
all about.
I have developed 100's of bollards and holding methods over the
years, now I have 4 systems I use to do whatever a particular line
requires.
The amount of time and money invested is incredible and continues to

from Dacron, this id twice the size of PE for the same
breaking strain, have a look in the hollow section, for comparisons,
I think its more like the hemp rope of years gone buy.

Material, for most users its the hardness factor that counts, this
relates some what to the wearability of the line, if you look at the
Berkley big game IGFA with a hardness of 97.4 then this would
make a great leader material. Compare it to the Schnieder
klear line that is used as a leader at 97.8.

The Berkley 65lb
FireLine, and the 65lb XDS are extremely different lines, the XDS is very much
thicker and breaks much higher, the Fireline seems to have large
variations between batches. The 30lb FireLine sent in, although labelled as 30lb
was in fact 65lb, tested to 90lb, wrong line on spool.
Is this a case of don't
know, don't care or just confused.
